Wine Rack Kits and Plans

Properly storing wine keeps flavor and lets wine age so that you can taste its evolving, complex flavor. Buying a wine rack, however, can be pricey, especially for someone who is more interested in developing a robust wine collection, not decorating.

Properly storing wine keeps flavor and lets wine age so that you can taste its evolving, complex flavor. Buying a wine rack, however, can be pricey, especially for someone who is more interested in developing a robust wine collection, not decorating.

Before you begin construction, plan where you will put the wine rack. Storing the wine in the right environment is crucial to its flavor. Always store wine in a cool, dark, and slightly humid area. Never store wine in the sun or in the heat. It will cook the wine and ruin its flavor. Keep the temperature between 50 and 59 degrees Fahrenheit. Store the wine on its side so it keeps the cork moist.

Wine rack kits let you grow your wine collection piece by piece. Wall-mounted wine racks let you store nine to 36 bottles on one shelf. Wall-mounted metal wine racks make it easy to see the label of each bottle. Expect to pay between $50 and $100 for each shelf. Dont be afraid to ask the retailer for a discount if you buy many shelves at once. You can also buy matching wine islands so that you can store wine and have a tabletop in your wine cellar. Look online for the best selection.

Build your own wine rack for the lowest cost. Free plans are on the Internet, and youll probably need at least a table saw or jigsaw, a sander, and drill press. For simple projects, you can expect to pay less than $10 for equipment.

Probably the cheapest, but most effective wine rack you can build uses brick and wood planks. Stack the bricks for height, and use wooden planks with smaller wooden dividers for an easy-to-make wine rack.

Metrokane Houdini Expandable Wine Rack

Made from high-tensile-strength wire bonded to super-strong plastic, the Houdini wine rack looks more like a scientific model than a place to store Bordeaux. Nevertheless, anyone who's struggled with inexpensive, Tinkertoy-flimsy wooden racks will appreciate its exceptional structural stability and strength. Tests prove that each Houdini rack can bear up to three times the weight it's designed to hold. Plus, this rack’s modular. Connect multiple racks as your collection grows, snapping them together via special, enclosed clips to form any configuration you choose. Metrokane’s innovative, space-saving design stores more bottles than most any other rack, and enables the piece to fit tight spaces such as refrigerators or cabinet shelves. This expandable wine rack folds flat for storage, and arrives fully assembled. --Mary Park

Customer Review: Exactly what I needed

The Metrokane expandable wine rack is just perfect for the space I have in a cabinet. I bought 3 of them and they adjusted to exactly fit the space. They are a bit pricey but definitely worth it for what I needed.

Customer Review: No regrets!

Absolutely wonderful! I can't believe how sturdy it is!

This is a must buy! Don't settle for anything else!

Wine History For Your Reading Pleasure

Understand Wine and Your Health

During the 1990s, a physician voiced on the television show "Sixty Minutes" that drinking red wine reduces heart disease. He cited the relatively lower levels of the disease in France despite their ever so famously high fat diets. Since that program, it seems that red wine health effects have been on the forefront of the wine consumers mind.

Good for the Heart

Coronary artery disease is caused by a build up of cholesterol in the arteries that supply the blood to the heart. If the arteries get partially blocked the heart cannot get enough oxygen and the result is pain. Does red wine protect against heart disease?

Many studies suggested that moderate amount of red wine (one to two glasses a day) lowers the risk of heart attack for middle aged people by 30 to 50 percent. It was also concluded that red wine may prevent additional heart attacks if you have already suffered from one.

The cholesterol that blocks these arteries is called low density lipo-protein or referred to as the bad cholesterol. This is cleared from the blood by high density lipo-proteins or the good cholesterol. Moderate wine consumption produces a better balance of these two. Additionally, wine has an anti-coagulation effect which makes the blood less likely to clot.

Red Wines

Chemical and food experts have known for years that wine contains rich deposits of vitamins, minerals, and natural sugars that are often beneficial to good health. Wine is also rich in potassium and low in sodium. Red wines have more of these elements due to the juices longer contact with the grape skins. Red wines are also rich in Vitamin B which comes from the grape skins as well.

Wine and Digestion

Wine aids in the production and flow of gastric juices. This facilitates digestion by breaking down the food in the stomach quickly and effectively. For many, after the age of 50 our bodies do not produce enough hydrochloric acid that are needed for digestion. So many doctors, including my own, have suggested a glass or two of wine with a meal. Who am I to complain?

Wine also has a tranquil effect on the body and helps people who have trouble sleeping. And it does not stop there as it may help lower the risk of developing dementia and Alzheimers disease.

Wine and Calories

As of now, there is no such thing as a diet wine. Unfortunately, there is no getting away from the fact that wine contains calories and calories make you fat if you do not burn them up. A glass of white or red wine contains around 100 calories. Sweeter wines that contain residual sugar as well as alcohol have more calories.

Final Thoughts

When you put everything together you may decide that a little bit of wine does you some good. Wine certainly has its place in a healthy lifestyle. That is my conclusion, and I am sticking with it!

Banyuls 5 Year Aged French Red Wine Vinegar 750 Ml

Banyuls wine vinegar comes from the southern most point of France, where the pyranees run into the Mediterranean. The winegrowers of this area where the soil is inferitle and arid work by hand the vines of the grenache grape. Under the hot sun the dry northerly wind of this region the grapes are picked at full maturity to make superb rich and powerful banyuls wines. The local cuisine holds an amazing wealth of tastes, every dish if ull of color and aromas. One of the secrets behind this cuisine is Banyuls Wine Vinegar.
Banyuls wine vinegar of the Cave de l'abbe rous gets its aromatic complexity from an outstanding fortified wine naturally rich in sugar. The wine is stored in 650 liter casks for 4 years where it is exposed to the wind and weather. The conditons allow the wine to age prematurely and develop exceptional aromatic complexity, the same qulaities are reflected in the vinegar. This Banyuls vinegar is a burned topaz in color with tints of gold. Woody and spicy on the nose, while the taste of fresh walnuts and menthol runs deep on the palate.
To preserve this complexity in aroma and taste in the next step of aging, the vinegar is transferred to 220 liter casks for 12 months. By the end of the process a full 5 years will have passed. The vinegar when aged to its full potential offers a combination of fresh walnuts, spice bread, beeswax, vanilla and liquorice notes. This complex taste will add character to any dish with just a touch. Imported From France 750 ml

Customer Review: A good source for a great product

This is one of the best red wine vinegars available for those who want something besides the overdone balsamic vinegar. I first tried it at a Williams-Sonoma sale when they stopped carrying it. It has a wonderful flavor so I was pleased to find it on amazon and received 5 star service from Taylor's Market the seller who sent my order much faster than the promised date and very well packed so I recommend this great product and the seller.

C1RCA Men's Al50 Sneaker

For skaters who crave style just as much as performance, this classic by Circa should do the trick. Constructed with a nubuck, leather and suede upper, the AL50 features an array of cool designs to choose from, a full lace-up front, and reinforced upper layering for durability. A padded tongue, collar and footbed cushion feet in all the right places, and the latex foam insert at the heel and arch offer added support and shock absorbency. The shoe's sticky gum rubber sole is lightweight, flexible and designed for good board feel.

Customer Review: Great deal

We ordered two pairs of shoes from this retailer. They were very good deals and were very quickly delivered to us even with standard shipping. We are very happy with this transaction. (We: me, the one who pays, and my son, the one with who tears through skateboarding shoes at an alarming rate.)

Customer Review: really?

I disagree that they're heavy duty shoes. Quite the opposite I would say. They're thin soled with a slim profile (compared to normal fatty skate shoes of course). I'm a huge fan of the thinner tongue and the short break in time. That being said, they're not that durable both in terms of skating and regular wear and tear. The sole splits fairly easily (started the first time I wore them) and my friend's AL50 only lasted him 3 weeks of skating. Also I'm a sucker for lace protectors, and since these don't have them, prepare to rip through lots of laces. Another way they can improve it is by adding a gel insert under the heel to improve the cushioning of these thin soled kicks. Ultimately, they are well priced, good looking and comfortable shoes. But if you're looking for a similar but more durable skateshoes, I recommend the C1RCA 208 vulcs since they don't have all the short comings I've mentioned above.

Riedel Ouverture Red Wine Glasses, Set of 4

Perfect for everyday use, the four red-wine glasses in this set are part of the moderately priced Ouverture series offered by world-renowned Austrian wineglass maker Riedel Crystal (founded in 1756). Being lead-free, they're not crystal like Riedel's premium glasses but are machine blown of potash glass and are dishwasher-safe. Their thin rims are cut and polished to Riedel's exacting standards, so wine flows easily onto the tongue. Each glass holds 12-3/8 ounces and stands 7-3/8 inches high. Though glasses shaped and sized for different types of wine seem commonplace today, when Riedel introduced this idea in 1961, it was revolutionary. Since then Riedel has continued fine-tuning glasses to bring out the best characteristics in wines and spirits. Varying bowls' shapes and sizes affects the position of the head when sipping and where wine first contacts the tongue's various taste zones. --Fred Brack

Customer Review: Wine glasses

These glasses are wonderful. I would definetly buy more.

The quality is very good for the price.

Customer Review: Perfect Size

Riedel Ouverture Red Wine Glasses, Set of 4

For me these are the perfect size of glass. Although they are made for Red Wine I use them for White as well. They are very good quality and pretty sturdy. I have had the more expensive Riedel glasses and they are wonderful but very fine and tend to break more easily. By the way it is pronounce Ree-dull, not Rydel like the high-school in Grease. Enjoy!

Unique Pepper Nasal Spray Beats Wine Headaches & Hang-overs

The world's first natural hot pepper nasal spray is gaining a huge reputation for relieving chronic sinus ailments and headaches across the world, but it turns out this "HOT" new nasal spray also beats alcohol headaches and hang-overs.

Altamont, NY April 26, 2004 -- Since its' official release barely six months ago, the Sinus Buster capsaicin nasal spray has become a worldwide phenomenon. The Sinus Buster is the worlds' first nasal spray made with all natural hot pepper extract, and it's been proven to relieve chronic sinus, allergy, and headache symptoms for thousands of people.

In fact, the Sinus Buster has the honor of being one of the few products in the natural health industry to actually be recommended by a growing number of doctors. These doctors include ENTs, Neurologists, and Allergists.

"The more people who buy Sinus Buster, the more we keep finding out what it's capable of. When we started out with this formula, the intent was to market it as the ulimate migraine headaches stopper - period. But then we started finding out the sinus buster was relieving chronic allergies, and all kinds of sinus ailments including infections. This is what our customers began reporting back to us. We've even had a few dozen customers who claim the sinus buster cured their anosmia -- that's the condition when people lose their sense of smell. It's just amazing - everytime we turn around we get another story from somebody finding a new use for the sinus buster," boasts Wayne Perry, President of SiCap Industries, makers of the Sinus Buster nasal spray.

It seems Perry isn't exaggerating either. Lately there have been many stories coming in from people who say the Sinus Buster is becoming big with the bar crowd. It turns out this unique nasal spray is a "morning after" hang-over chaser that can't be beat. Jay Bowlen, a contractor from Pittsfield, Massachusetts uses the Sinus Buster whenever he's recovering from a wild night out.

"It doesn't just get rid of the headache. It also clears everything out and it wakes me right up. After a night of partying...when I finally roll out of bed, I use it in the shower and I'm good to go. It's great stuff, says Bowlen.

But the Sinus Buster's connection with booze doesn't just stop with hang-overs. The Sinus Buster is also known to stop wine headaches in their tracks. For many people that's an important selling point because although the percentage is small, there are many wine lovers who get headaches from their beloved beverage.

It's known as the "Red Wine Headache", because it appears to be red wine that causes most wine headaches. Medical researchers don't know much at all about this syndrome mainly because the research dollars just aren't there, and it's something the big wine makers just don't want publicized. In June 2002, The Harvard Health Letter reported "the red wine headache is a real and poorly understood phenomenon."

For instance, many people believe the government warning labels on wine that read, "contains sulfites" are there to warn people of possible headaches, but it's actually to warn the 1% of the population who are allergic to sulfites. In truth, the medical community simply doesn't have any real answers concerning the cause of wine headaches, but it seems the Sinus Buster has an answer when it comes to the solution.

"I'm Italian and I love my red wine, but every once in a while I get a wine headache and it's total agony. Just like a migraine. I know it's some kind of allergy because I also get stuffed up, but the only answer my doctor had was to not drink wine anymore. Then one night I was out with a friend and I started to get a wine headache. She told me to use this hot pepper nasal spray. She was using this stuff for her migraines, and she said it worked. Boy did it ever. My headache went away in a few seconds, and I could breath again right away. I drank wine all night that night and never had another headache. Now I take the sinus buster with me whenever I'm going out to drink, says Gina Mitchell of Catskill, New York.

Yet another connection between the Sinus Buster and wine is its' growing popularity in well regarded wine tasting circles. It turns out this hot pepper nasal spray is also good for cleansing the pallet by waking up the nerves inside the nose that control the senses of smell and taste. Many wine connoisseurs say one little shot of the Sinus Buster allows the user to experience the very essence of the wine the way it was meant to be experienced.

To learn more about Sinus Buster, the worlds' first "capsaicin" hot pepper nasal spray --- go to (www.sinusbuster.com).

Samples of the Sinus Buster are available for verifiable accredited media and medical professionals upon request by using the contact information that accompanies this release.

Innovative Kitchen Decorating Idea Brings the Look of Oil Paintings Into Your Kitchen ARADesigner dishwasher panels are created from original oil paintings and reproduced on high quality vinyl. They will make a truly unique gift ideas for practically any occasion.

Tilghman Island, MD April 26, 2004 - The kitchen has long been the very core of any house. From your childs birthday party with countless kids making their own ice cream sundaes to office holiday functions where entertaining the boss turns into a demonstration on the proper way to stuff a duck, the age-old saying holds true: Everybody ends up in the kitchen. So why then dont we take the time to create a true living space within this all-important area of our house?

Dishwasher Creations founder Kimberly Bushey asked herself that same question. When I took a look at my dishwasher, it was just a white panel with a plain face. I believe the reverse side had an almond finish, but either way there was not much imagination at all. The dimensions of the dishwasher panel area seemed to be the perfect space for a work of art. So thats exactly what I decided to put there: real artwork.

With the help of her mother-in-law, impressionistic artist Maureen Bannon, Bushey created several designer dishwasher panels that bring the look of oil paintings into the kitchen. From soothing beach scenes to sophisticated wine coolers to whimsical barnyard hens, these pieces of kitchen art are created from Bannons own actual oil painting compositions then transferred onto durable vinyl with such detail the brushstrokes are still visible.

A light adhesive on the back allows the panels to be used and removed easily without damage to the appliance. Designer dishwasher panels clean up quickly with mild soap and water, and are UV protected to resist fading for up to three years.

A designer dishwasher panel is the perfect piece of kitchen art for any cooks domain. They also make truly unique gift ideas for practically any occasion, states Bushey.

Dishwasher Creations can be found online at www.dishwashercreations.com. Each panel costs $79.95 plus shipping and any applicable sales tax. For additional information, please visit Dishwasher Creations website

Rose Flower ~ Monteux original Rose flower water French import 9 cl 3 fl oz ~ Single, or more

Both the orange flower water nd rose water are made near Grasse, the capital of French perfumes and scents. Chocolate mousse, crêpes, gâteau Breton, madeleines, the celebrated bugnes lyonnaises, ices, creams and more, call for Rose flower water. Rose water, a staple ingredient of Middle Eastern pastries, is less common in French recipes, although it is used in sorbets and fruit compotes

Customer Review: A little disappointed..

I love ALL THINGS FRENCH but I must say, I was not fond of this Rose water. Perhaps, I am simply use to the Rose water from Lebanon which is absolutely delicious. Monteux tasted very different. It comes in a small plastic bottle, not glass and seems to be a watered down version of what I am use to.

My overall review is that I prefer the rose water imported from Lebanon. It is much more aromatic and tasty.

Nambé Tilt Wine Decanter

When life becomes too serious, bring out the Tilt collection. Each tumbler, glass, or decanter leans playfully, some might say perilously, sideways; but gravity is no match for the thick, heavy bases that keep these works of art upright. The Tilt wine decanter, crafted by skilled European artisans of full-lead crystal, is quite elegant despite its playful quality, and differs from the stoppered Tilt spirits decanter. Designed by Karim Rashid, this one features an exaggeratedly wide base, providing more surface area for oxygen to interact with the wine, and a long, narrow neck, good for grasping, which rises to a slanted, rather than level, rim. With a capacity of 1.25 liters, the decanter holds an entire 750-ml bottle of wine with room to breathe. All Tilt items are boxed for giving, and are best washed by hand to preserve their fine brilliance.

Nambé was founded in 1951 in a village of the same name in scenic northern New Mexico. From the beginning, the company focused on hand-producing high-quality, functional items such as sand-cast metal bowls and trays with great attention to timeless, modern design. Porcelain tableware also now joins Nambé crystal and metal lines, all of which make exceptional gifts for the most special of occasions. Nambé ware has won numerous design awards, has been shown in or recognized by nearly two dozen museums worldwide, and is part of the permanent collections of many, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York. --Ann Bieri

March 2009 - About Wine-

Another Great About Wine Article

Using Bargain Wines to Your Advantage

Using bargain wines is often preferable for occasions when it would be unwise to to invest a large amount of money in expensive wine.

Do you really want to use top-notch red wine for making sangria or for serving up at parties, when friends have already had enough to drink? No, I didn't think so!

Drinking Bargain Wines

Blended wine is usually cheaper and a reasonable bet in terms of drinkability. As a general rule, Chilean blends are the cheapest option, although it's often worth paying that little bit extra for Australian blends. In fact, a number of Australian producers market two excellent blends at the lower end of the price spectrum, one white and one red. The red is a blend of cabernet sauvignon and shiraz and the white consists of semillon and chardonnay. Keep an eye out for these grape combinations, if you're after a bargain!

Another winner at the cheaper end of the market is Spanish Rioja (both red and white). As Rioja is usually less fruity than the previously mentioned blends it is generally better for serving with food, rather than drinking on its own.

Other Uses of Bargain Wines

Sangria

If you're making sangria, you need red quaffing wine - and lots of it. As sangria is made from red wine, sugar, fruit juice and spirits, the quality of the red wine becomes largely secondary. This is where boxed wines come into their own. Buy large boxes that are relatively cheap - no one will notice! Be sure to purchase reasonable quality fruit juice and don't go for the absolute cheapest wine as you may live to regret it, the following morning!

Large Parties and Receptions

When serving wine to a large party, cost is obviously important. As a rule, boxed whites are generally more palatable than boxed reds, so if want to trim costs, anywhere, buying cheaper white wine may be a safer option.

A great way to improve boxed red wine is to add a reasonable quality bottle of red wine. Provided that you choose the correct bottle of red, this can make an impressive difference to the taste. Of course, you do need some suitable decanters or serving carafes and a little patience to pull this one off, successfully.

Finally, choose your nibbles wisely. Plain potato chips will do little to help you disguise a poor wine. Instead opt for a selection of cheeses, as they will enhance the flavor of even the cheapest of wines.

Customer Review: Good Glasses

Good glasses for their durability.

Glass feels same as regular but almost unbreakable which is great.

Size and shape is good for big red wines.

They are able to go in the dishwasher.

Recommended.

Customer Review: Elegant but not overpriced!

These glasses look really expensive and you can use them daily without worrying about someone breaking them. (They are actually quite resistant). I have received many compliments. Great buy.
